In 2009 Better Bankside, the Business Improvement District for Bankside, commissioned placeworks to write and edit their 'dbrief' communcations on behalf of the Bankside Logistics Group. In December 2010 they won the Mayor of London BIDs Award for Best Partnership. The judges remarked on the "excellent communications strategy ensuring stakeholders are aware of major infrastructure developments in the area”.

Partners in the Bankside Logistics Group include Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe.

In this issue we have had so many success stories here on Bankside recently that we wanted to update you on some of what’s been going on, from The Tate Modern Project’s plans to dramatically reduce energy use, to a new future for Flat Iron Square. We also update you on the archaeological finds that are still coming out of the ground around Borough Viaduct, some of which are on display at the Museum of London until summer 2011.

In this issue we switch our focus to matters of transport – from the huge improvements that Bankside and London Bridge will see with major bus and train station developments at both London Bridge and Blackfriars, to enhanced river services. We explore an innovative scheme to make cycling safer while the developments take place – Better Bankside is working with Mace to design an effective training scheme to help HGV drivers and cyclists share the road safely.

In this issue we take a look at how, sensitively and imaginatively designed, these individual projects can grow into a network of spaces and streets reaching out into the wider neighbourhood. A new north-south route through Tate Modern will help to strengthen the connections between the river and the heart of Bankside, and Tate’s landscape architects are exploring ways to create a public realm that will flow into surrounding areas.

In this issue we look at our very impressive history, from Bronze Age agriculture at NEO Bankside, via Roman walls and Restoration weddings at Borough Market to Sir Giles Gilbert Scott’s monumental brick cathedral that became Tate’s temple to modern art. And we meet Southwark Council’s very own archaeologist.

In this issue we continue to look at how these exciting schemes are transforming Bankside and London Bridge. This time we focus on how the developments can benefit local people through opportunities for jobs, and the acquisition of transferable skills for the future.
